After twenty-five years with Four Seasons and a fifteen-year working-relationship with Maui, Ben Shank is bidding us farewell. Starting as a busboy at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia, he worked his way up to General Manager, spending the last four years of his career at the Four Seasons Wailea. He carries Maui especially close to his heart as his youngest daughter was born here in Maui while he was the Food & Beverage Director, and much of his three children’s primary years were spent here as well. Maui will forever be a home to his family and its ocean his sanctuary.
In meeting Ben initially, one would note his professional class, calm and collected demeanor, and genuine conversation that immediately establishes trust. However, beyond business prestige, he has a great sense of humor and spirit which he displayed in costumed, choreographed, lip-sync performances for his team during their annual celebrations – performances sure to be missed.
Ben holds much pride for the 5-star team of over 1000 employees he led. He describes his team at Four Season Wailea as, “Some of the most authentic and genuine people I have ever met. I have been blessed that everyone welcomed me and my family and how much we have learned about the Hawaiian culture. We will take that with us forever.”
Being on the MHLA Board since early 2023, Ben was immersed into service for the Maui community, especially with the August 2023 wildfires – hosting displaced residents, government entities and initiating lines of support from his contacts across the nation.
“Helping the community and this industry through the wildfires has filled me with a great sense of purpose,” Ben relayed. “I was in awe of how everyone rallied together, and we all leaned in with our hearts to help make decisions in those very difficult days. I will be forever grateful to my team, our guests and the entire community of Maui.”
While we are sad to see Ben leave us, it is evident how important relationships are to him and we know he will continue to nurture Maui even from afar.
Mahalo for all you’ve done for Maui, Ben Shank. May you carry Aloha with you wherever life takes you.
