2021 Scholarship Recipients


The Maui Hotel & Lodging Associations is pleased to announce our 2021 Scholarship recipients.

The MHLA awarded a total of $20,000 in Scholarships. Fourteen outstanding individuals were awarded through one of three scholarship programs: the UH Maui College Hospitality and Culinary program, the Academy of Hospitality (AOHT) program including students and alumni from Baldwin, Lahainaluna and Maui High Schools, and the MHLA Member program. Recipients were selected based on academic excellence, leadership, and community service.

MAUI HOTEL & LODGING ASSOCIATION AWARDS $20,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS TO UH MAUI COLLEGE STUDENTS, ACADEMY OF HOSPITALITY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, AND MAUI HOTEL & LODGING ASSOCIATION MEMBERS’ STUDENTS

- Visitor Industry Gives-Back to Maui’s Future Industry Leaders –

WAILUKU, MAUI – Maui Hotel & Lodging Association (MHLA) awarded a total of $20,000 in Scholarships to thirteen Maui students. Outstanding individuals were awarded through three scholarship programs: the UH Maui College Hospitality and Culinary Program; the Academy of Hospitality (AOHT) program including students and alumni from Baldwin, Lahainaluna and Maui High Schools; and the MHLA Member Program.

One student each from the UH Maui Culinary program and UH Business & Hospitality program were awarded $1,500. Kauilani Garso-Steward and Tiana Irvine were recognized by their department coordinators as outstanding achievers who exhibit potential industry leadership.

Three students were awarded $1,500 scholarships through the The Maui AOHT scholarship program, designed to support students who have chosen a career path within the Hawaii Visitor Industry. Lana Calibuso-Kwee of Baldwin High School, Casylynne Kate V. Villalun of Lahainaluna High School, and Arielle Villanueva of Maui High School all demonstrated academic excellence in the AOHT program.

Eight additional scholarships were awarded to Maui Hotel & Lodging Association membersʻ students. This program is designed to encourage and benefit our members and their children in seeking higher education. Scholarships are awareded to students who display excellence in academic achievement, leadership, and community service. Recipients are: Briana Bandy, Manuel Kupa'a Castro, Kami Echiverri, Stacia Eng, Zyra Gonzalez, Skye Kaina, Jeremy Peros, and Hannah Valencia.

All Scholarship are funded with proceeds from the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association’s “Excellence in Education” Golf Tournament. The 2021 Excellence in Education Golf Tournament will be held this year on Friday, August 20, 2021.

The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association is a nonprofit organization founded in 1987 to advocate for the Visitor Industry. The organization also provides educational opportunities and scholarships and gives back to the community via the annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk; Excellence in Education Golf Tournament; and Kupuna Dinner.
