Ukiu Energy is a firm, renewable fuel power plant in the Waena region of Central Maui (across from the current Central Maui landfill) that was selected by HECO in their recent RFP 3 procurement process to build a new source of firm (always available 24/7) power for Maui’s electric grid. As we are sure you know, HECO is facing many challenges as they work to modernize the Maui’s electric grid, rebuild what has been lost in the fire, and deal with pending litigation. As large customers of HECO, the MHLA members will certainly be impacted by these challenges.
In this member only Town Hall, Ukiu Energy team will give a brief overview of the project, what it can do to stabilize Maui’s electric grid, and looks forward to feedback and advice.
The project developers are Ameresco, and Maui based NH Energy Ventures. Skog Rasmussen LLC is a Maui based community and economic development consulting firm assisting the project with community outreach.
