WAILUKU, MAUI – This past Saturday, July 20th, Maui Hotel & Lodging Association (MHLA) hosted for the first time, the Get Out the Vote community event at Queen Kaahumanu Center (QKC). This non-partisan event gave the public an opportunity to meet local candidates, learn about the election process and pick up voter registration applications. Fifteen candidate campaigns were present at the QKC center court during the event hours of 11am to 1pm, including (in no particular order):

  • Vote for Carol Lee Kamekona
  • Gabby Macaraeg
  • Friends of Jeremiah Savage
  • Friends of Kelly King
  • Friends of Lorien Acquintas for County Council
  • Kelly Armstrong
  • Friends of Linda Clark

  • Friends of Nara Boone
  • Codelia for Council 2024
  • Friends of Dan Johnson
  • Friends of Yuki Lei
  • Friends of Tom Cook
  • Friends of Johnny Keoni Prones

Nearly four-hundred visitors attended throughout the event and approximately fifty voter application pamphlets, published in multiple languages, were distributed. Maui Chamber of Commerce, Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce, and Queen Kaahumanu co-sponsored the event and the light entertainment provided.

“It is very important for the community of Maui to vote,” says Lisa Paulson, Executive Director of MHLA. “Our Maui voter turnout historically has been low and this is the time to change that.”

MHLA encourages residents to register for the upcoming primary election taking place August 10th online or in person. For more information on how to register or where to cast a vote, visit the Office of Elections website.
