About Us
The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association is a non-profit organization whose membership is comprised of visitor accommodations and allied businesses in the County of Maui.
The association began in 1972 as the Maui Chapter of the Hawaii Hotel Association. Fifteen years later, members of the Maui Chapter formally established the Maui Hotel Association and committed themselves to playing a more active role in addressing the needs of Maui’s visitor industry and community. As of 2007, our members collectively employ approximately 10,000 residents in Maui County.
The Association serves as Ka Leo Ho’okipa, The Voice of the Hospitality Industry. We are dedicated to promoting a healthy environment in which both the visitor industry and the community co-exist in a harmonious and mutually beneficial manner.
MHLA works closely with policy makers, industry representatives and our greater community. Among our many activities are the:
• Maui County Visitor Industry Charity Walk, which raises thousands of dollars for scores of nonprofit agencies;
• Kupuna Dinner, in honor of our valued senior citizens;
• Excellence in Education Golf Tournament, which funds scholarships for students pursuing higher education
History of Maui Hotel & Lodging Association Logo
In 2006 Mr. Robert Glick of Glick Design won the MHLA Logo contest. He submitted the following explanation:
The GRAPHICS:
The logo has a design style somewhat reminiscent of traditional Hawaiian iconic designs. These tend to display a strong graphic quality, and often have repeating patterns, triangles and other geometric elements, interlocking shapes, and symmetry.
The COLORS:
The sienna brown and reddish brown colors are often represented in traditional Hawaiian tapa and other graphic designs and refer to colors of the earth. The yellow-orange color was often used for the capes and other items used by Hawaiian alii. Here it represents the color of the shun shining over Maui.
The LETTER FORMS:
The design contain the letters, M, H, L, A. The M represents Maui and Molokai, and surrounds the “H” on all sides. The “H” represents Hotel and is central to the design. The “L” represents Lodging and Lana’i.
