MAUI HOTEL & LODGING ASSOCIATION'S "EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISES OVER $21,000 FOR SCHOLARSHIP FUND

WAILUKU, MAUI – The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association’s 15th Annual “Excellence in Education presented by Southern Wine & Spirits of Hawaii” golf tournament took place on Friday, August 29 at the Ka'anapali Golf Course. The sold-out event raised over $21,000 in mostly scholarship funds.

While many of the golfers won some great prizes, the real winners of the event are Maui’s youth.  The popular visitor industry event celebrated 15 years of giving back to Maui’s future business leaders by raising significant funds for the following programs:

  • The Academy of Hospitality & Tourism (AOHT) programs in Baldwin, Lahainaluna and Maui High School scholarships
  • UH Maui College Culinary Arts and Hospitality & Tourism scholarships
  • MHLA Membership scholarship program
  • Maui Junior Golf

“The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association is committed to giving back to the community by providing opportunities for our future business leaders,” says Carol Reimann, executive director for the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association. “We are pleased to raise much-needed funds during these difficult economic times to ensure our youth have the tools to make educated choices. The students who benefit from our efforts are the future of Maui and it’s important that we provide opportunities to help maximize their potential - while also supporting workforce development.”

The 15 top teams received fabulous prizes ranging from hotel stays to dining certificates to golf rounds to cleaning certificates. The team that placed 15th received First Place honors – a tribute to the 15th annual event. Golf results are as follows:
